We are committed to reducing our environmental impact while supporting our people and the communities we serve. Our Ethos
Our sustainability ethos is grounded in accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement. We foster a company culture that prioritises environmental awareness and sustainability, while setting, monitoring, and reporting on greenhouse gas reduction targets, with a focus on reducing emissions on a per-employee basis. Energy consumption is routinely reviewed, and we actively pursue energy-saving initiatives. We also minimise office waste and promote recycling practices, continuously review our environmental objectives, and seek innovative improvements. We comply with environmental laws and regulations, with strong Board involvement to ensure accountability and drive meaningful reductions in environmental impact.
Sustainability Goals
Our sustainability goals provide a clear framework for progress and accountability. We are committed to achieving a 50% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions between 2018 and 2030 without relying on carbon offsets, supported by initiatives such as encouraging remote client engagements to reduce travel emissions, while retaining the client relationship. We are actively lowering our footprint through measures like introducing PHEV vehicles, prioritising BEV and PHEV rentals, and updating internal policies.
Our company is committed to delivering lower whole-of-life carbon solutions by reducing emissions across every stage of a project, from design and construction through to operation and maintenance. By embracing sustainable practices, innovative technologies, and efficient resource use, we aim to minimise environmental impact while creating long-term value for our clients, communities, and future generations.
Our Action Plan
Niko’s action plan outlines how we deliver on our sustainability commitments through practical and measurable steps. We monitor and report on greenhouse gas emissions and broader sustainability metrics, while implementing targeted energy efficiency and carbon reduction initiatives. Efforts are made to minimise waste across all office operations and project delivery, alongside improving resource efficiency in design and execution, recognising that longer project durations can increase overall impact. We also encourage sustainable behaviours across all teams and embed sustainability considerations into project planning and decision-making processes to ensure consistent, long-term outcomes.
Our sustainability action plan includes measuring and monitoring the carbon impact of our designs to better understand and reduce emissions across the project lifecycle. By assessing the environmental footprint of design choices, materials, and construction methods, we can identify opportunities to lower carbon emissions, improve resource efficiency, and deliver more sustainable outcomes for our clients and communities.
