Power Your Future with Niko Engineering

Hamilton | Christchurch

At Niko Engineering, we’re proud to deliver high-quality, specialist electrical engineering consultancy services across New Zealand’s power sector. As trusted consultants, we work across transmission, generation, and protection alongside industry leaders like Transpower, Mercury, Genesis, Meridian, and Eastland Generation.

We’re now hiring for our Summer Internship Programme running from November/December 2026 to February 2027.

About the Internship

Paid internship plus the opportunity for a $5,000 scholarship bonus award at the end of the programme for 2027.

Based in either Hamilton or Christchurch, you’ll work alongside some of New Zealand’s leading electrical engineers.

While the exact scope of work will vary, you can expect exposure to areas such as:

  • Primary and Secondary Systems
  • Earthing Design
  • Protection Systems
  • Generation Projects
  • Control Systems

Right now, we’re supporting complex substation design and grid-connection projects across New Zealand’s electricity sector, including work linked to renewable generation and battery energy storage. We’re also exploring practical AI-enabled tools to improve how power engineering work is delivered, combining automation, data-driven design, and deep technical expertise to help shape the future of New Zealand’s power system.

You’ll be actively contributing to real engineering design projects, receiving hands-on coaching, and building skills that will set you up for a career in the electrical engineering industry.
